Ridiculous Salary Ruto’s Chief Economic Advisor Gets Per Hour For Consulting Services
President William Ruto’s chief economic advisor, David Ndii, denied on Tuesday that he was stealing from the government, pointing out that he earned more from consulting services than from his monthly salary.
Ndii made public an invoice showing that he was paid Ksh45,000 per hour to consult for a bank.
The economist stated that for half a day’s work, he earned a total of Ksh417,600 minus VAT.
He contrasted that with the Ksh666,000 he earned from the National Government in May 2024 while advising President Ruto and his cabinet.
“You can do the math, my monthly pay is less than 2 days work. I am not in this for money,” he spoke of his role as Ruto’s advisor.
According to the shared invoice, Ndii charged Ksh45,000 per hour for six hours of strategy retreat presentation.
The bank he was consulting for paid an additional Ksh90,000 for a two-hour staff lecture.
Ndii stated that the Ksh666,000 monthly pay was the only cash he received from the Treasury, implying that he is not paid any allowances.
Ndii also stated that he does not consult for the government and instead works in the private sector.
The economist has been vocal in criticizing former and current government officials who use their positions to plunder public funds.
He explained that the plundering has forced Ruto’s administration to make unpopular decisions because the public debt has risen dramatically.
Ndii explained that the National Government uses Ksh200 billion on average to settle domestic debt, but there have been times when the amount paid out in a week exceeded Ksh 100 billion.
“One slip and it is a financial meltdown. You can come and take your country,” he told Kenyans demonstrating against high taxes.
