‘Nobody Should Threaten Us’ – Gachagua’s Allies Say In A Fundraiser Attended By The DP

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is in Maragua, Murang’a County, for a church fundraising event.

The DP is accompanied by a slew of MPs who have pledged their allegiance to him in the wake of an alleged feud with President William Ruto.

Area MP Mary Wa Maua is hosting the country’s second-in-command at Murang’a South’s Kaharate Catholic Church.

“Nobody should threaten us,’‘ said Wa Mau during the service.

All eyes are on Gachagua, who launched an aggressive response this week against some top government officials.

Gachagua accused the officials of allegedly harassing MPs who supported him and voted against the Finance Bill, 2024.

The DP accused National Intelligence Service boss Noordin Haji of fabricating intelligence reports to link him and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Generation Z protests.

Gachagua demanded on Wednesday that Haji resign from his position to make way for a more capable Director General.

Addressing the press in Mombasa, a visibly agitated DP blamed the NIS for the current anti-government protests, which he claimed have resulted in deaths and destruction.

He claimed that the NIS failed in its duty to inform the head of state about the situation on the ground before the citizens took to the streets.

“Ruto deserves better, he deserves a DG who knows what he is doing, who is effective and can analyse situations to keep the government informed,” said Gachagua.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has also criticized Gachagua for his allegations against government officials and the 2024 Finance Bill.

Kuria, on the other hand, has accused Gachagua of lying, claiming that the DP is a member of the Kenya Kwanza team that is pushing for the proposed law.

“The Deputy President chaired the Committee meeting that approved the original Finance Bill, which included VAT on milk and bread. What a lying, dishonourable man!” On Wednesday night, the minister wrote on X.
