Powerful Ruto PS Criticizes Keter’s Unlawful Abduction

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Kipkorir Sing’oei criticized the government on Sunday for the arbitrary arrests that have occurred since the start of the Finance Bil, 2024 protests.

In a post, the PS responded to a viral video in which he called into question the alleged abduction of former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter.

Kipkorir cautioned the government against using extrajudicial means to arrest people, regardless of the circumstances.

He went on to say that while the arrests were made for legitimate reasons, the methods used were crude and did not adhere to constitutional guidelines.

“There is a procedure for effecting an arrest. This is not one of them. We must resist the temptation to adopt extra-legal means even in the pursuit of legitimate objectives,” stated Kipkorir.

In the viral video that prompted the PS to make these comments, the former legislator was forcefully ejected from his vehicle by a group of hooded men.

The group approached Keter’s vehicle in Lavington, Nairobi County, and drew him out despite the ex-MP’s pleas for assistance.

He was later loaded into a pick-up truck and driven away, leaving the legislator’s family in his vehicle.

The abduction is said to have occurred earlier on Sunday afternoon, as the family was leaving church.

“Abducted, headed to an unknown destination,” a social media account associated with Keter posted moments after the incident.

The former legislator recently made headlines for criticizing Kenya’s Kwanza government.

Following these criticisms, several people have claimed that the government was complicit in the kidnappings.
