Karen Nyamu Breaks Silence After Kortex’s Denial Statement
On Monday, July 1, nominated Senator Karen Nyamu complained about political isolation after a menstrual hygiene products company denied working with the politician’s foundation.
Karen Nyamu had previously stated that her foundation had held a series of meetings with the company to provide free tampons to schools, particularly in slums.
Senator Nyamu was excited about the deal and claimed that she was able to achieve it despite Kenyans accusing her of supporting unfavourable tax policies.
Following her statement, thousands of Kenyans threatened to boycott the product.
“We confirm that no discussions or conversations have taken place with Nyamu and any assertions regarding a prospective partnership are entirely false,” the company stated.
The hygiene products company, while emphasising its commitment to championing women’s progress for all Kenyans, stated that it did not engage in any political affiliations or endorsements.
Senator Nyamu stated that, despite the company’s statement, she will continue to champion women’s rights.
“You do not have to agree with my political affiliation but you can appreciate this noble cause my foundation has taken up to expose our girls to alternative feminine hygiene products like tampons and period cups,” she remarked.
Kenyans accused her of posting a non-existent deal, but she defended herself by stating that she had previously announced projects that turned out to be successful.
“Sometimes companies forget political figures are also people and what we do to impact the community is bigger than ourselves,” she spoke of the rejection by the hygiene products company.
She hinted that the company’s decision to stop working with her was most likely motivated by the backlash.
Despite the setback, Senator Nyamu stated that she would continue to look for other ways to bring the dream of free tampons for schoolchildren to fruition.
