Ruto Set To Sign The IEBC Amendment Bill On July 9
President William Ruto is set to sign the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Bill.
Ruto is scheduled to sign the Bill on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
This is the first bill that Parliament has successfully processed in response to the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
“President William Ruto invites leaders of parliamentary parties, both inside and outside Parliament, to join him for this historic event,” State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed stated.

Once enacted, the president would be required to promptly appoint a selection panel, resulting in a panel of nine to appoint the new commissioners, up from two under current law.
According to the proposed law, the current team will cease to exist once the Bill is enacted, though members may be re-nominated.
Voters in Mandera, Banisa constituency, and two Western wards have yet to replace MPs and MCAs whose seats have been vacant for months due to a lack of commissioners.
The constitution states that whenever a member of the National Assembly’s office becomes vacant, a by-election must be held within ninety days.
The bill was approved by the National Assembly on Thursday.
