Man Suspected For Allegedly Disabling Parliament CCTV Cameras Before Protests Charged
On Wednesday, a man was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on suspicion of breaking into parliament buildings on multiple occasions between April and July 2024.
The suspect was charged with stealing CCTV cameras totaling Ksh2.6 million on the days he gained access to the building.
He was also allegedly found with the electrical switches during his arrest on Monday.
According to the charge sheets, the suspect broke into parliament once, a day before the nationwide protests on June 25, when protestors stormed parliament buildings.
Police officers reported that on June 24, the suspect gained mysterious access to the building around 6:00 PM, where he broke in and entered basement area 1, stealing a CCTV switch worth Ksh445,000.

“On the 24th day of JUNE 2024 at around 1800hrs at the Parliament of Kenya along Parliament Road in Starehe Sub County within Nairobi County, you broke and entered into the basement no.1 area of the main Parliament building and committed a felony therein namely stealing of one (1) CCTV switch make CISCO valued at Kshs445,000/= (four hundred and forty five thousand only),” read the charge in part.
On a previous occasion, the suspect allegedly broke into Parliament basement area 2 on May 20, stealing two CCTV camera switches worth Ksh890,000.
Similarly, on April 23, the accused allegedly stole two switches worth Ksh890,000.
The most recent of the invasions was on July 8, when the accused is said to have broken into basement area 1 and committed the felony.
AfricasNow reviewed the charge sheets and discovered that the felonies occurred between 6:00 and 6:30 PM on all four occasions where the suspect is accused of committing the offense.
In front of a Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate, the suspect denied the charges and was released on a Ksh500,000 bond or a Ksh200,000 cash bail.
The next hearing on the case will take place on July 24, 2024.
