Mt Kenya Governor Rallies Residents On Calls For Ex-Interior CS Kindiki’s Re-Instatement
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki urged President William Ruto to reconsider appointing Kindiki Kithure, the immediate former Interior Cabinet Secretary, to his new cabinet.
Njuki, Tharaka Nithi County’s boss, praised the former CS for his ‘exemplary performance’ in the Interior docket during his 21-month tenure.
Speaking at PCEA Rubate in Chuka, the governor revealed that everyone in the county, including the political class, had decided to rally around Kindiki, who was fired earlier this week.
During his remarks, Njuki took a swipe at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, whom he claimed had recently targeted Kindiki.

“Yesterday I heard the opposition leader (Raila) saying that Kindiki should be prosecuted. We are kindly asking him to leave Kindiki alone, there is nothing wrong he has done, he has never been found guilty of any offence or charged in any court of law.”
This came after Raila, speaking to a congregation in Kakamega on Saturday, called for Kindiki’s prosecution over recent reports of deaths, excessive force by law enforcement personnel, and abductions linked to anti-government protests.
Njuki contended that Kindiki fulfilled his mandate in accordance with the constitution and therefore should not be singled out.
He also welcomed the call for an all-inclusive cabinet reshuffle.
The Tharaka Nithi governor urged the President to consider Tharaka Nithi when reorganizing the cabinet. Njuki argued that the Ministry of Interior docket should be assigned to a regional resident.
“We have discussed as local leaders, clergy, and Members of the County Assembly and we have all agreed that it is only Kindiki who can be reappointed to the Interior Ministry docket.”
Njuki also pledged his full support to the President as he implements reforms to revive the economy.
According to Governor Njuki, President Ruto is committed to putting Kenya’s economy on the right track, which is why he has decided to throw his weight behind him.
This comes days after President William Ruto dismissed the Cabinet, with the exception of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, to pave the way for the formation of a “broad-based Government”.
The President stated that he acted following an extensive review of the Cabinet’s performance.
He later promised to consult various sectors and political formations to identify those who could help him accelerate Kenya’s transformation.
