On the morning of Wednesday, July 17, Siaya High Court Judge Daniel Ogembo was discovered dead inside his Siaya Town residence.
Ogembo served as presiding judge of Siaya High Court until his untimely death.
Siaya County Governor James Orengo led the nation’s mourning for the judge.

“Justice Ogembo had a marvelous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he mourned.
According to his driver, the Judge complained on Tuesday afternoon that he wasn’t feeling well despite keeping his work schedule.
When he did not return his calls and texts on Wednesday morning, the driver sought assistance to break into his home and check on the Judge.
While the Judge remained on the residential property alone, his family was informed and rushed to the scene to open the house and confirm the body.
Police officers also responded to the scene and transported his body to the mortuary for autopsy.
Before being assigned to Siaya, Ogembo worked in the Eldoret and Milimani High Courts.
Ogembo’s death was the third in quick succession for the Judiciary, following the deaths of Justice David Majanja and Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
Interestingly, Justice Majanja was laid to rest on the same day that Ogembo was discovered dead.
Chief Magistrate Monica Kivuti died on June 15 from gunshot wounds inflicted by a police officer during an open court session.
