3 Tourists Killed, Others Injured in a Kajiado Road Accident
At least three Chinese nationals were killed on a grisly road near Duka Moja on the Oliotoktok-Emali road in Kajiado.
The three, two men and one woman, were part of a group of six tourists traveling from Amboseli National Park to Nairobi when the accident occurred.
They are said to have died from injuries while being treated at Kilome Nursing and Maternity Hospital in Emali, where they had been rushed.
According to police, preliminary investigations show that the rear left wheel of the Toyota Landcruiser in which they were travelling detached from the axle, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
“As a result, the vehicle veered off from the road and overturned,” a brief statement issued by National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango reads.
The three others who survived with serious injuries are still undergoing treatment at the same facility.
The mangled wreckage of the vehicle is said to have been towed to the Mashuuru police investigation, while investigations into the true cause continue.
According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, the most common causes of fatal crashes were hit-and-runs, tyre bursts, and vehicles and motorcycles losing control.
Overtaking improperly and failing to stay in the proper lane, which results in head-on collisions, are also mentioned as causes.
Police and other agencies are waging a campaign to combat the menace.
