Legislators from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have disowned members of President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominations announced on Wednesday.

Caleb Hamisi, a Saboti Member of Parliament, claimed on K24 on Thursday that the appointment of four ODM party members to the Cabinet was the result of individualistic actions.

“What happened yesterday was individuals clamoring to get jobs. They are out of ODM and the new generals will emerge, and the party will emerge maybe even more vicious and lethal,” Hamisi said.

Nabii Nabwera, a Lugari MP, also stated that the party completely dissociates itself from its members’ individual decisions.

“Before we resolve the issues of compensation before we sit down to address the issues being raised by Gen Z, we behave like vultures,” stated Nabwera.

“It is unfortunate. We dissociate ourselves from the individual decisions of members of the party.”

Furthermore, the ODM’s leadership stated that no party organ has approved any of its members’ participation in President Ruto’s government.

These remarks come after President Ruto appointed ODM deputy leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, chairman John Mbadi, and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi to his Cabinet.

Joho was nominated as CS for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs; Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives and MSME Development; John Mbadi for National Treasury; and Opiyo Wandayi for Energy and Petroleum.

The four joined 16 other nominees chosen by Ruto as he reconstituted his cabinet.

Sifuna, on the other hand, described the four members’ decision to join Ruto’s cabinet as personal and lacking party support.
