Kenya’s National Assembly Unveils The Names Of MPs Set To Vet New Cabinet Nominees
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has unveiled the Committee tasked with vetting the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries.
In a statement, he stated that he will chair the Committee, with Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Shollei serving as his deputy.
Shollei will take on the position as National Assembly Deputy Speaker.
The National Assembly Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wah, will also serve on the vetting committee.
Others include Anthony Kimani, Owen Baya Yaa, Robert Mbui, Rahab Mukami, Dido Ali Raso, Gitonga Murugara, David Gikaria, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Mary Emaase, Rahim Dawood, and Junet Mohammed.

Caleb Amisi, Stephen Mule, Nelson Koech, Abdi Shurie, Naisula Lesuuda, David Pkosing, and Mishi Mboko will also be on the team vetting the 20 nominees.
Wetangula also stated that Opiyo Wandayi, the Leader of the Minority, will not attend any vetting process as a committee member following his nomination to the energy docket.
“Notably, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who was previously a member of the Committee, will not participate in the vetting process but will instead appear before the Committee for his vetting,” read the statement in part.
On the other hand, he assured Kenyans that the committee would conduct a thorough vetting process to ensure that only qualified candidates were approved for the position.
“I have urged the Committee Members to prepare for extensive and meticulous scrutiny of the candidates, emphasizing strict adherence to legal frameworks, particularly Chapter 6 of the Constitution concerning leadership and integrity, to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates for the positions,” he added.
The screening of the nominated CSs is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 1.
Interior CS nominee Kithure Kindiki and his Defence counterpart, Rosalinda Soipan Tuya, will be among those vetted on the first day.
The betting exercise will last until Sunday, August 4.
Meanwhile, Kenyans who have reservations about the 20 Cabinet nominees are advised to write to the Clerk of the National Assembly.
“Now therefore, in compliance with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations.
“They may have, by way of written statement on oath (affidavit) with supporting evidence contesting the suitability of any nominee proposed for appointment.
“The representations may be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly, P.O. BOX 41842-00100, Nairobi: hand-delivered to the Office of the Clerk, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke and appointments.nationalassembly@parliament.go.ke,” read the notice in part.
