Azimio Chiefs Asked Me To Scuttle The Western Kenya Unity Drive Meeting – Ayub Savula

Ayub Savula, the Deputy Governor of Kakamega, has revealed the involvement of a powerful politician in the Western political game.

Savula claimed that senior opposition leaders directed him to lobby Western Kenya politicians to boycott a recent political meeting at the Kakamega Gold Hotel, which was hosted by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala.

According to Savula, the meeting was irrelevant to the Luhya community’s development agenda.

“I have convened this meeting to give a rejoinder to what has happened today in Kakamega,” Savula said.

He elaborated on his earlier discussions with the opposition chief, who was in Mombasa at the time.

“I consulted the Azimio leader on whether to attend the meeting or ignore it; he gave me express instructions to lobby all members of parliament from Western to skip the meeting because the meeting was not going to discuss anything tangible in regard to the Luhya community,” Savula said.

“If there are issues regarding the development, a budget of a country is not done by a secretary general of a party.

“The budget is done by the executive comprising ministers and is taken to parliament for approval; it is not discussed in a hotel.”

He also stated that the meeting’s agenda was primarily to discredit Western Kenya’s current leadership, which includes Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, and Wycliffe Oparanya, the current nominee for the Cooperatives and MSMEs docket.

“Those are current leaders in government. We are standing by those leaders.”

Looking ahead, Savula announced plans for a major political rally, which will be headlined by Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula.

“We are going to convene a major meeting co-chaired by Musalia and Wetangula and all the MPs from Western province to discuss the political agenda of this community in view of the broad-based government that has been put in place by William Ruto and Raila Odinga,” he stated.

The current political dynamics in Western Kenya highlight the region’s critical role in the national political landscape.

The region’s leaders are banding together to consolidate their power and chart the future course for their community within the framework of Kenya’s changing governance.
