TRIBAL CHAINS: Kiambu Senator Accuses Mount Kenya Politicians For Gachagua Impeachment Plot
Kiambu On Tuesday, July 30, Senator Karungo Thang’wa accused Mt Kenya politicians of dividing the populous voting bloc and plotting to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During a media interview, Thang’wa identified Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri as one of the plot’s leaders.
The Senator chastised the MP for his previous comments, which he claimed were laying the groundwork for Gachagua’s removal.

“What Kiunjuri was doing was preparing the ground to impeach Gachagua and I must say this is what most Mt Kenya leaders are doing,” he stated.
According to Thang’wa, Kiunjuri had previously claimed that those plotting a coup were from Mount Kenya.
He stated that if residents of the region had not deciphered the message, things would have become chaotic.
Furthermore, the Senator revealed that there was an issue between the Democratic Party and President Ruto.
He lamented that those around them were exacerbating the tension rather than resolving it.
However, he warned the group planning to impeach the DP that it would not be a ‘walk in the park’.
The Senator added that Gachagua was elected by more than five million Kenyans.
“They should shelve this idea because if the country was almost destroyed because of a piece of paper, the finance bill, what do you think things would turn out if a person people elected was impeached,” he posed.
On whether the impeachment motion would pass in Parliament, the Senator stated that MPs were wiser now and more willing to listen to the people.
He believes that President Ruto would not support or allow this impeachment to take place.
The Senator claimed that Ruto ‘owed’ the region and would not harm those who voted for him.
“Those plotting this ouster are selfish, this man Kiunjuri maybe he thinks that he will secure the DP’s seat if it becomes vacant. I want to tell him that he will not get it,” Thang’wa remarked.
Finally, in the interview, the Senator urged politicians from the Mt Kenya region to support DP Gachagua.
“The only leader we have in the region with a huge following is the Deputy President but we are fighting him instead of supporting him,” he remarked.
