The incident occurred while the Kenyan contingent was patrolling the National Hospital-APN Sea Port road. They noticed a truck being attacked and looted by suspected bandits.
When the officers intervened, they discovered that the gang had shot the driver while looting the loaded truck carrying rice bags.
When the gangs began shooting at them, the patrol team responded immediately. During the firefight, the Kenyan officer was shot and injured.
Following the incident, the officer was evacuated and rushed to the Life Support Area (LSA) hospital, where he was treated and released to recover.
“The officer is optimistic and is in stable condition pending further medical treatment,” read the police statement.

Similarly, the gangs escaped with serious, potentially fatal injuries, disappearing into the tall buildings from which they were shooting.
The incident occurred just a day after Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille escaped unharmed after gangs opened fire near a hospital in Port-au-Prince where he had paid his visit.
CNN journalists were interviewing the interim prime minister at the hospital when gunfire erupted in a nearby neighborhood.
Garry Conille was accompanied by Haitian National Police and members of Kenya’s UN-backed security force when the incident occurred.
As Conille’s motorcade sped away from the hospital, security forces protecting Haiti’s leader provided cover by firing back at the gangs.
