Self-Proclaimed UDA Secretary-General Injured Trying To Ouster Malala In A Violent Turn

Joe Khalende, the self-proclaimed secretary-general of the United Democratic Alliance party, was injured on Wednesday when supporters of secretary-general Cleophas Malala stormed the office.

The supporters stormed into the party headquarters on Ngong Road.

In a video obtained by AfricasNow, Khalende had his head bandaged and blood stains on his shirt.

His supporters were heard preventing him from addressing the crowd, arguing that he should first seek treatment.

“You can as well address people while at the hospital,” they told Khalende.

Khelende claimed that people planned to kill him.

“I know you want to kill me,” Khalende claimed without naming the said people.

Police were also stationed at the headquarters. The group chanted pro-Malala slogans while claiming that the SG was still a member of the UDA leadership.

They were heard chanting ‘bado mapambano’ while others carried placards reading ‘bila malala ni taabu kubwa’.

The standoff erupted after Khalende declared himself SG, claiming to have ousted Malala.

He claimed that Malala was working against the Party’s goals, including the broad-based government established by President William Ruto.

Khalende also claimed that Malala was not taking his duties as Secretary-General seriously, necessitating his replacement.
