8 Police Officers Interdicted Following The Gigiri Police Station ‘Escape’ Saga

Following the escape of 13 suspects from Gigiri Police Station on Tuesday, including the main suspect in the Kware Murders, Collins Jumaisi, 8 police officers, including the Gigiri OCPD and OCS, were apprehended.

After hearing about the escape, Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin arrived at the police station and decided to interdict them.

The police chiefs convened an impromptu meeting to determine the next course of action and concluded that the escape was most likely an ‘inside job.’

According to reports, top cops questioned police officers on duty at the time of the incident and inspected the cells where the suspects were held.

The suspects escaped on the morning of Tuesday, August 20, when they would normally have breakfast.

On that fateful morning, Police Constable Gerald Mutuku, who was in charge of conducting routine cell checks alongside the canteen manager, discovered that 13 suspects were missing.

They raised an alarm, and top police officials rushed to the station.

Mohamed Amin, the director of DCI, was among the senior officers present and confirmed the suspects’ escape.

Mohamed said they have launched a full-fledged search for the suspects.

The suspects allegedly cut a hole in the wire mesh at the waiting bay before jumping off the perimeter wall.

Since then, Gigiri police station has been declared a crime scene, and the DCI is currently conducting investigations.
