“The NYS Remains Indispensable” – President Ruto Orders Basic Firearms Training For Youth Officers.
President William Ruto has directed that National Youth Service (NYS) recruits receive mandatory basic firearms training so that they can defend the country if necessary.
Ruto stated that his government has kept its promise to recruit a large number of servicemen and women into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) while also ensuring other job opportunities for NYS graduates.
The Head of State presided over the 88th National Youth Service Recruits Pass-Out Parade in Gilgil on Monday.
“The NYS remains indispensable to our efforts to enhance public service delivery and national security,” Ruto said.

The president also stated that 447 of the 790 officers recruited for the Kenya Wildlife Service were former NYS recruits.
“This is a 56% overall living to my directive that all security agencies must give priority to our NYS men and women because of their demonstrated discipline, capability and paramilitary training,” Ruto further said.
The President directed relevant ministries, particularly those of Interior and Defense, to ensure that NYS recruits receive paramilitary training that includes a basic firearms course “to ensure that they stand ready to protect the country when the need arises.”
