Governor Nyong’o Demands Ruto Dual Kisumu-Busia Road To Curb Rising Accidents
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has called for immediate road safety reforms in light of the tragic accident that killed nine people this afternoon.
Several others were critically injured in the accident on the Muhoroni-Kipsitet road.
Nyong’o has urged the Traffic Police to crack down on unqualified drivers and unsafe vehicles.
“Today, we have lost nine people in a ghastly road accident that left several others badly injured in Muhoroni Sub-county, adding to the growing list of people killed on our roads across Kisumu and the rest of Kenya,” Nyong’o said.
He emphasized how today’s tragedy could have been avoided.
The governor also emphasized the importance of dualizing major roads in the region, including the busy Busia-Nairobi Highway, to help reduce tragic accidents like the one that occurred today.
In his plea to President William Ruto, he repeated his earlier request for improved road infrastructure during the President’s recent visit to Kisumu.
“As I join the people of Kisumu in mourning the dead, I wish to repeat my request to President William Ruto when he visited Kisumu last week that major roads in this region should be dualised to help reduce terrible accidents like the one,” the governor’s statement reads in part.
The governor also thanked everyone who rescued the injured and medics who worked hard to reduce the number of casualties.
“My condolences to families who lost loved ones, as we wish the injured quick recovery.”
