Mt Kenya’s Gachagua-Allied Politician Claims DP Exploring Different Options

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), claimed on Thursday that President William Ruto’s warm reception in Nyanza during his tour was part of a political script designed to humiliate Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyutu, the deputy president’s ally, revealed that as a result, they were closely monitoring the most recent political developments in the government.

The move comes after the Head of State appointed some members of the opposition to the Cabinet, resulting in the formation of a broad-based government.

‘’As people from Mount Kenya, we are studying the happenings in the political landscape and one thing that was clear is that there was a script to humiliate the Deputy President,’’ Nyutu stated.

The senator decried a system of favoritism in which their ODM counterparts are now preferred in government over them.

‘’This is like a polygamous marriage where now the new wife is more favoured than the first wife,” he added.

The lawmaker added that the DP’s wing was closely monitoring developments to determine whether the Mt Kenya region would be isolated.

Especially from being given the priority and treatment they previously received in government.

The Senator reiterated a recent claim that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Chairperson Gladys Wanga and Minority Leader in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed humiliated the DP.

’If you listened to the two saying they had some small mountains to show the deputy president, that was a direct humiliation at him during the tour,’’ Nyutu added.

He did, however, say that Ruto had consulted them on the need to include the opposition in the government.

Nyutu appeared to dismiss recent decisions made by regional leaders regarding whether the President acted on his decision after consultation.

‘’He did consult with us. Of course, we understand that he needed to calm the political situation in the country,’’ the Senator indicated.

The Senator’s remarks hinted at deep political disunity within the ruling party UDA.

Two factions are likely to emerge, one loyal to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the other to President William Ruto.
