President Ruto Awarded Golden Plate For Exemplary Leadership – State House
On Thursday, September 12, President William Ruto received the Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award, bringing him international recognition once more.
According to State House, this award recognizes Ruto’s exceptional leadership in promoting transparency, accountability, and public participation, qualities that have elevated Kenya to the forefront of African governance innovation.
The award was given at the launch of Kenya’s 5th National Action Plan (NAP 5) under the Open Government Partnership (OGP), emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to open governance.
On behalf of the Academy, Korir Sing’Oei, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, presented the award.
We are working with partners to make the government more open and citizens more informed in our effort to strengthen public participation, improve governance and boost service delivery.

According to a statement from the State House, the award demonstrates Ruto’s vision and impact on governance.
Kenya’s leadership in the OGP framework has set the tone for other African countries, and the country is frequently cited as a model of best practices in open government.
This is Ruto’s second time receiving the Golden Plate Award. His first induction into the American Academy of Achievement occurred in 2022, at a ceremony held in Washington, DC.
At the time, General Charles Q. Brown recognized him for his inspirational life story and rise from humble beginnings in rural Kenya to the highest office in the land.
Wayne Reynolds, Chairman of the Academy, praised Ruto’s perseverance and determination, a journey that many people around the world can relate to.
Ruto now joins a distinguished list of global leaders who have received similar honours, including former US President Barack Obama, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and the late South African President Nelson Mandela.
During his May 2024 visit to the United States, Ruto became the second Kenyan president to receive the U.S.-Africa Business Center’s Outstanding Leaders Award.
This award was presented in the presence of US Vice President Kamala Harris and Susan Clark, CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce.
Clark praised Ruto’s efforts to attract investments and promote business-led solutions that will drive Kenya’s economic growth.
Clark remarked, “In recognition of your work to really promote business-led solutions and your steadfast commitment to trade and investment initiatives, to grow Kenya’s economy.”
Beyond the United States, Ruto’s leadership has been praised throughout Africa.
Ghana’s highest honor, the Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta, was bestowed upon him earlier this year.
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo referred to Ruto as a new generation of African leaders dedicated to upholding the rule of law and promoting accountability.
Guinea-Bissau recognized Ruto’s bravery and leadership with the ‘Medalha Amílcar Cabral’, the country’s highest civilian honour.
