Governor Sakaja Hits Back At DP Gachagua Over Nairobi Traders’ Welfare

On Friday, Nairobi Governor Johsnon Sakaja took a subtle dig at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

This comes after DP Gacgagua accused the governor of forcibly relocating traders from Wakulima Market, also known as Marikiti.

In a post, Sakaja explained that the decision to relocate the traders from Wakulima Market was motivated by the need to ensure their safety.

The Nairobi Governor believes it is his primary responsibility as county chief to protect and foster an enabling environment for them to do business.

“I have a duty and mandate that will not let me fall for populist political gimmicks at the expense of the lives and safety of Nairobians,” stated the governor.

The governor went on to accuse DP Gachagua of playing tribal politics, which he claimed was harmful to the nation because it could fuel division.

He also chastised the Deputy President for inciting city traders against the Nairobi County Government in the vernacular during a rally in the nation’s capital.

“You have chosen to use falsehoods to incite traders against the measures we are taking,” claimed the governor.

“There will be order in this major artery into the city. The people of Nairobi and the leadership of the market support this move fully.”
