Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects, had a difficult time defending the proposed leasing of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when addressing university students.
Boos and jeers filled the air as university students gathered to attend a UDA function at the Bomas of Kenya interrupted his speech.
Itumbi was attempting to justify Adani Enterprises Limited’s proposed takeover as good for the country.
He was explaining that neighbouring Rwanda is building a brand new airport to connect with Kenya, but some leaders are opposed to JKIA expansion.
He added that Ethiopia is building an airport, which will be one of the largest in Africa.

The privatisation agreement, which would give Adani control of the airport for 30 years, has sparked widespread public outrage due to its secrecy and potential consequences.
Airport employees have protested, demanding that the plan be scrapped. Adani has pledged Sh238 billion to “upgrade and expand” the airport.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Law Society of Kenya filed a lawsuit to stop the deal, claiming that leasing a strategic and profitable Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to a private entity is irrational.
On March 1, 2024, Adani submitted a proposal to take over the operations and management of JKIA.
The company has denied reports that its proposal for the JKIA takeover was approved in 17 days.
According to the company, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) cleared the feasibility study proposal in 17 days.
KAA has faced criticism for its takeover approval process.
