Man Confesses Killing, Burying Partner In Cement 16 Years Ago
A man in South Korea has admitted to murdering his girlfriend and burying her body in cement 16 years after she was reported missing.
The man, who is in his fifties, told police that he hit the woman with a blunt object during an argument at his apartment in the southern city of Geoje.
He then buried her body in a suitcase on his balcony, covered in bricks and cement.
It went unnoticed until last month, when a maintenance worker came across it while drilling, according to local media.
The body, which was partially preserved by the suitcase, was identified as the missing woman’s via fingerprint analysis.
An autopsy revealed that she died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
The man, identified as Mr A by police, was not in the apartment when the body was discovered, but he was quickly located and arrested.
He told police that he had been living with the woman in the studio apartment in Geoje for about five years before an argument in October 2008 led to him hitting her with a blunt object.
He then buried the suitcase containing her body beneath a layer of bricks and cement on a small third-floor balcony accessible only from one of the bedrooms.
Police say he continued to live in the apartment for another eight years before being arrested on drug charges in 2016.
Since then, the landlord has left the apartment empty and used it as storage space.

The woman, in her 30s at the time, was not reported missing by her family until three years after her death, according to authorities.
They had reportedly lost contact with their daughter and, when they arrived in Geoje to look for her, were told she had broken up with Mr A and left the city.
The 16-year mystery was finally solved this year when the building’s owner ordered some waterproofing work.
Police say they are continuing their investigations and plan to charge the man with murder.
