Gachagua-Allied MPs Come Out Gun-Blazing Over Impeachment Motion In Parliament

On Wednesday, political players continued to react to the impeachment motion against Rigathi Gachagua.

Two of the Deputy President’s close allies came out with guns blazing, warning that the former might withdraw his support for the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking to journalists outside the National Assembly, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu provided the clearest indication that Gachagua’s camp has already planned for the possibility that the impeachment motion will succeed.

Nyutu warned that if this happened, Gachagua and his allies would withdraw their support for the ruling administration.

“For us divorcing Rigathi is divorcing the whole mountain,” Nyutu stated.

Senator Nyutu hinted that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has a hand in the impending impeachment.

Nyutu asked the former prime minister to give Gachagua a political lifeline and persuade his MPs to vote against the motion.

“We have not seen anything that Rigathi has done, that Ruto as DP never did to President Uhuru, Uhuru never tried to impeach him, this is something that we do not take lightly, and we know that without his blessing this motion would never have been tabled,” Senator Nyutu stated.

Separately, in an interview with K24, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya dismissed the charges levelled against Gachagua, claiming that the majority of the allegations were made up.

“Even though there are allegations of the DP appearing that he has been a bully, I don’t think he has gone physical to anybody,” Gakuya defended the DP.

The MP also targeted Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for making insensitive remarks about the Democratic Party.

The Majority Leader claimed Gachagua is a merciless man who must be tamed.

The MP also questioned Ichung’wah’s request to Speaker Wetangula to ensure that all MPs who supported the motion were adequately protected by liaising with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

“When you talk about protection, I know you are asking to be protected because you fear Gachagua will hunt you,” he stated.

The MP, a close friend of Gachagua, stated that he has never heard of any incident in which Gachagua bullied anyone, as claimed by a group of politicians led by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

“Personally, he (Gachagua) is a good friend and I have not seen any kind of characteristics people talk about. As much as we have the history of Gachagua I have not heard him being a bully beyond levels of control,” the MP attested.

“Maybe the fear could be maybe supporters who can feel aggrieved may take another dimension to revenge.”

Meanwhile, in the coming weeks, all eyes will be on DP Gachagua to see what steps he takes after the motion is tabled on the floor of the House.
