Gov’t Forcefully Migrates Kenyans From NHIF To SHA
Kenyans were forced to transfer to the Social Health Authority (SHA) from the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“Your NHIF account has been migrated successfully to Social Health Authority. To update your profile dial *147#, visit sha.go.ke or any authorized SHA agent,” the messages read.
This comes a day after the Ministry of Health implemented SHA.
Despite initial skepticism following the launch of SHA, the scheme has now reached 12.5 million registrations, marking a significant milestone.

On Tuesday, nearly 400,000 new registrations were recorded, totaling 12,540,117 subscribers.
During the rollout, PS for Health Mary Muthoni assured Kenyans that any contributions already made to the NHIF would be safely transferred to SHA.
“No money is going to be lost, that money will be rolled to SHA,” she said.
SHA CEO Elijah Wachira assured members that no contracted health providers would deny them access to dialysis, cancer, or maternity care.
His remarks come after several public complaints that some health providers have informed patients that they will have to pay cash for these services in the future.
“No member will be denied access to dialysis or cancer services,” he said.
“Maternity services should not be denied at Kenya Essential Package for Health (KEPH) level 2 and 3 facilities, and actively managed schemes will continue to access services.”

Wachira also stated that Kenyans covered by NHIF who have yet to switch to SHA will continue to receive treatment, a statement echoed by Health Cabinet Secretary Debrah Barasa.
They will, however, need to register as soon as possible.
“Those that were under the NHIF cover and haven’t transitioned to SHA will still be attended to,” Barasa said.
“No hospital will send anyone back home because they haven’t registered. Instead, they will register you and treat you.”
