KUFA DEREVA, KUFA MAKANGA! Huge Portion Of Kenyans Demand Both Ruto And Gachagua Be Impeached
The public participation exercise on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion began on Friday, with some Kenyans calling for President William Ruto to step down as well.
The day began with protests in Nyeri, where residents stormed out of the venue to protest the impeachment motion, alleging that they had been offered bribes to support the bid.
The chants erupted into chaos as they barricaded major roads and lit bonfires while chanting, “No Rigathi, No Government.”
“Unapea watu form wasign ati upatie watu mia tano. Hatutaki hiyo mia tano…tunajua kujitaftia…No Rigathi…no government,” one resident stated.

At Bomas of Kenya, the situation was no different, with residents in Nairobi echoing the sentiments, stating that President Ruto should follow suit if his deputy’s impeachment motion passes.
Chants of “Kufa dereva, kufa makanga” could be heard filling the air, and residents burst into song and dance.
The phrase, which has become a phenomenon, means that if the DP is impeached, his boss should also be removed from office because they were hired as a team.
“Tumechoka kuambiwa fulani ni mbaya na fulani ni mzuri. Embe moja ikioza kwa kikapu, yote yameoza. Nasema kufa dereva, kufa makanga na hashtag inapaswa kuwa #FagiaWote,” a Starehe resident said.
“Hii serikali ni sisi tulichagua. Ikiwa Gachagua ni mbaya, hata Ruto ni mbaya. Wote waende. Hakuna kubakisha mtu; kufa dereva, kufa makanga,” another Nairobi resident pointed out.

Kenyans, dissatisfied with the country’s recent politics, also strongly expressed their displeasure with the current regime and demanded that the government be disbanded.
“Kenya must move forward! The Speaker of the National Assembly should be ready to take over for the next 90 days,” another resident noted.

The impeachment motion, filed by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, outlines 11 grounds for removing Gachagua from office.
Some of these grounds include gross misconduct, violating the Constitution, undermining the presidency, and corruption, among others.
Following the High Court’s orders, the motion will go through a second round of public participation before being debated in the National Assembly.
