Boda Boda Riders Given Strict Mandatory Directive After The Machakos Incident

The Bodaboda Association of Kenya has issued a stern warning to all Bodaboda riders across the country, as well as new training measures to strengthen the riders’ relationships with their passengers.

This follows an incident in Machakos County on Sunday in which a local bodaboda rider sexually assaulted a female passenger.

The victim in the Citizen TV incident detailed how the rider changed her route before sexually assaulting her along with several of his co-conspirators.

Fellow riders insisted that the rider, who has since been indicted, was already barred from operating in the area.

Kevin Bwire Mubadi, BAK’s National Executive Chairman, condemned the incident in a press release issued Sunday evening.

He insisted that such behavior has no place in the association and does not reflect the values and principles that they uphold.

“As the National Executive Chairman of BAK, I want to unequivocally condemn this incident. We are committed to the safety and dignity of all passengers and we take allegations of this nature very seriously,” Part of the statement read.

“Our primary objective is to ensure that bodaboda riders operate in a manner that is safe and respectful for all individuals.”

To ensure that the incident does not happen again, Mubadi has announced that riders across the country will need to receive new training on how to treat their passengers.

This, he says, is one of several new measures designed to strengthen their commitment to safety and accountability within their ranks.

Topping the list of new requirements is mandatory training for all bodaboda riders on passenger safety, respect, and ethical behaviour in order to streamline the professional relationship between passenger and rider.

“This training will emphasise the importance of treating all passengers with dignity,” Mubadi clarified.

All passengers have also been encouraged to report any misconduct by bodaboda riders, which will be accomplished through the new reporting mechanisms put in place to ensure that passengers feel safe speaking up.

BAK also promised to work more closely with authorities to ensure that all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action is taken when the accused are found guilty.

The list of measures to be implemented will conclude with the launch of public awareness campaigns aimed at educating both passengers and riders about safety practices, rights, and responsibilities.

In the same vein, Mubadi assured the Machakos assault victim that the incident would be thoroughly investigated and that BAK would work tirelessly to ensure that justice was served.

Mubadi insisted that the association is united in its mission to create a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all.

He also urged all stakeholders to join in the efforts to foster a culture of safety and respect within the community so that such incidents do not occur again.
