‘There Is No Such Meeting!’ – ODM Denies Viral Raila’s Strategy Meeting On Gachagua Impeachment

On Monday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party clarified that it had not called a meeting of its members of Parliament to discuss Deputy President Rigathi Gachaugua’s impeachment.

The meeting was allegedly scheduled for Monday, the day before Gachagua is expected to defend himself in Parliament.

The opposition party issued a statement claiming that a breaking news poster bearing the party’s logo and design was a forgery.

The fake poster purported, “Raila summons ODM MPs for Monday strategy meeting on Gachagua impeachment amid public discontent with Ruto’s government.”

“There is no such meeting today. Good day,” read the caption that accompanied the poster.

The correction came in the midst of the DP’s impeachment in Parliament, despite ODM’s insistence that it had no involvement in the motion.

Speaking on Friday in Migori, ODM deputy party leader Simba Arati said that the impeachment process was the prerogative and a mandate of the parliament.

He insisted that as a party, ODM was not in collaboration with the Kenya Kwanza government and that the party would respect the decision of both houses on Gachagua’s impeachment.

“I will continue to ensure that the ODM party discipline is maintained to bring sanity and make the party strong towards the next General Election,” Arati noted.

Arati, who also serves as Kisii Governor, stated that the National Assembly will assess, evaluate, and decide on the impeachment motion in accordance with the country’s laws.

“As a party, we are not saying Gachagua should go but because Parliament has decided, then let him go,” he stated.

“As ODM, we are not after him (Gachagua). We are also wishing the Kenya Kwanza government to stand as we have also helped President William Ruto stabilise it. Therefore, no one should say ODM is in the government,” Arati cautioned.

However, legislators affiliated with the ODM added their signatures in support of Gachagua’s removal proceedings.

On Friday, the public was invited to participate in public participation by submitting their thoughts. When activist Morara Kebaso attempted to express his views at Bomas in Nairobi, violence erupted.

Deputy President Gachagua will appear before a special plenary session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8, to put up his defence against the charges he is facing.
