‘Explain Your Wealth’s Source!’ – MP Mutuse Tells DP Gachagua

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to reveal the source of his multibillion-dollar fortune.

During a House session on Tuesday, Mutuse claimed that the 22 properties mentioned in his motion were acquired through a conflict of interest in government-related businesses.

He claimed that Gachagua used unexplained income to fund these purchases.

Mutuse noted that Gachagua did not deny owning the properties during a press conference on Monday, only stating that they were registered before he became Deputy President.

He cautioned MPs against Gachagua’s claim that some properties belonged to his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua.

“I have no issue with property ownership, but he must explain where the money for these acquisitions comes from,” Mutuse stated.

He confirmed that Gachagua is listed as an administrator of Nderitu’s estate and presented evidence from the joint will executor’s report dated June 27, 2024.

The MP accused Gachagua of coercing the sale of his late brother’s properties for the past two years.

He also questioned Gachagua’s statement about transferring his companies to his sons, who allegedly secured a Sh600,000 loan.

“I checked the IDs of those sons; they’re in their early 30s. Which Kenyan at 23 can walk into a bank and get that amount?” he asked.

Gachagua denied the allegations of corruption in his response to the impeachment grounds on Monday, claiming that the majority of his assets belonged to his late brother, who died in 2017.

“My brother bequeathed his properties, including the Olive Garden Hotel and Vipingo Beach Resort, in his will,” Gachagua explained.

He also stated that he, Mwai Mathenge, and lawyer Njoroge were appointed executors of the will and that a portion of the funds in his account came from the sale of the Olive Garden Hotel, as specified in the will.
