EASTLEIGH 3 MURDER: Suspect Detained For 9 Days As Investigations Continue

Police said they are still looking for the main suspect in the murders of Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her niece Nusayba Abdi Mohammed from Eastleigh in Nairobi.

Police refused to allow journalists into the courtroom, claiming they had not conducted an identification parade on the suspect, which is essential in a murder investigation.

The court ruled that investigators needed to complete the investigation and determine whether the man was involved.

Waris’ husband gave a statement to the police on Monday. A man wanted for murder called the victims’ families and demanded a ransom for their release.

According to investigators, the suspect is from Ethiopia’s Somalia region and illegally obtained a Kenyan identification card.

He also worked as a regional police officer in Ethiopia before being arrested and imprisoned on suspicion of murdering his wife.

He later fled to Kenya, where he established a base and launched a taxi service in Eastleigh and Parklands.

The man is wanted for questioning in connection with the murders of Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her niece Nusayba Abdi Mohammed in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighbourhood.

Police believe he knew the slain woman and was previously involved in the city’s extortion business.

So far, investigations have revealed that the suspect, 24, was driving the Nissan Note captured on CCTV cameras as he picked up the victims from their Eastleigh home on October 21, 2024.

This occurred only hours before their bodies were discovered scattered across multiple locations.

The vehicle was also discovered abandoned at Wakulima Market and towed to DCI Headquarters for forensic examination, further implicating the suspect in the killings.

“With one suspect in custody and assisting in the investigation, we appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist in the arrest of the suspect to #FichuakwaDCI by calling our toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203 or report at any police station,” the DCI said.

He has been assigned to the crime scene of a house where the women were brutally murdered. The women were buried on Saturday in Nairobi’s Lang’ata Cemetery.

According to preliminary investigations, the three were killed in a dispute over their abductors’ ransom demand.

The suspect allegedly contacted a Waris relative in London and demanded a ransom, but the relative dismissed him.

This enraged the man, who turned violent and killed them. Police are speaking with at least four people of interest.

They include guards from the apartment where the murder occurred, the owner of the apartment, and a suspected accomplice.

A suspect and a survivor of the murder have told police that the killers demanded a ransom from the women but turned violent when they realized the victims had identified them.

Detectives are questioning a woman who claims she was kidnapped and held alongside the three slain women. She claimed to have been kidnapped by the same killers as the three.

She claims that she was kidnapped alongside the three victims and held in the same room where they were locked up for hours.

She told police she overheard the killers argue that the slain women had identified them, which was dangerous and could expose them.

According to the woman, the abductors demanded a ransom to release them, and her family raised USD7,000 (Sh1 million), which was deposited in an Ethiopian bank account.

The Ethiopian authorities have been approached for assistance.

Waris Dahabo Daud Said, 38, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, 22, and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed, 12, went missing on October 21, 2024, and their bodies with stab wounds were discovered on October 22, 2024, at around 6 a.m. in various locations.
