Police Officer Ambushed, Robbed While Trying To Deposit Money
Thugs accosted and mugged a Diplomatic Police Unit (DPU) officer early Sunday morning, November 3.
The officer reportedly left his home in the Bypass area near Ruaka at 4:30 a.m. to go to work before the incident occurred.
Midway to work, he decided to deposit Ksh1,500 in a nearby Mpesa shop. At that point, he was approached by armed men who forcibly took his belongings.
According to statements recorded in the Karuri Police Station’s occurrence book (OB), three gang members approached the police officer and robbed him of his money and mobile phone.
“The police officer attached to the Diplomatic Police Unit who resides in the Bypass area near Ruaka about 6 kilometers East of the station was on Sunday at around 4:30 am as he was going to deposit Kshs1,500 in a Mpesa shop accosted by three unknown men who robbed him the cash and his mobile phone,” read the report.
According to the report, the DPU was injured during the robbery, receiving a stab wound from the three-member gang.
“The officer was hit with a blunt object on the head and stabbed with a sharp object on the upper torso near the ribs,” the report added.
The police are specialized officers who provide escort services to government diplomats and the country’s diplomatic community.
The robbers fled with Ksh1,500 and his mobile phone, leaving the police officer bleeding on the roadside.
Good Samaritans who passed by discovered the officer lying on the side of the road and immediately transported him to a Nairobi hospital for specialized care.

According to medical reports from the hospital, the officer is recovering and is currently stable.
It comes just two days after officers from Kilimani Police Station shot down two robbers on Tigoni Road near Naivas Supermarket on Sunday morning.

The gang of three on a motorcycle were caught red-handed in the act of committing a crime, prompting police to open fire.
One gang member fled the scene, but police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
