Mbadi Appoints Omanga While Mutua, Joho Make 22 KEY Gov’t Positions

In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 8, many Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s administration announced crucial appointments in their respective ministries.

Hassan Joho, Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, made appointments in two significant dockets.

The National Mining Corporation and the Kenya Fishing Industries Corporation have appointed Faraj Majur, Adan Yusuf Deis, and Darius Mobe to their respective boards.

In the Ministry of National Treasury, CS John Mbadi appointed three major agencies.

He appointed Michael Waititu Maina to the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority for a term ending on May 18, 2026.

At Consolidated Bank Limited, Mbadi named Harun Kipkemei and Florence Auma Oluoch to the board of directors.

Millicent Omanga was also appointed to the ministry’s board of directors for the Local Authorities Provident Fund, along with two others, according to the same gazette announcement.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 (1) (a) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Samwel Kariuki Maina, Beatrice Kones, Millicent Nyaboke, to be members of the Board of the Local Authorities Provident Fund, for three (3) years, with effect from the 8th November 2024,” the gazette notice read.

On to the Ministry of Labour, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua appointed Isaac Mbingi Okello as trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) for the next three years, effective immediately.

Rose Ombaki was also named to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s (KBC) board of directors by Margaret Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and Digital Economy.

Deborah Barasa, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, joined in on the appointment train and made two appointments as well.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (e) of State Corporations Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Health appoints — Tusmo Jama, Sylvia Achieng Ojoo, Moses Merkalel Atuko, to be members of the Board of Kenya BioVax Institute Limited, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from November 8, 2024, Sylvia Achieng Ojoo serves up to July 27, 2025,” read one of her appointments.

Dr. Barasa then canceled Sylvia Achieng Ojoo’s appointment to the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, allowing her to serve on the aforementioned docket.
