Senator Maanzo Warns Kenya Politicians Implicated In Adani Deals
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo admonished government officials who were involved in the Adani transaction before President William Ruto cancelled it.
According to the congressman, Gautam Adani, the founder of Adani Group, is enraged by the cancelation of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)-Adani project.
He linked this to a leaked phone call between Adani and a senior government official that went viral online.
In a high-pitched irate voice, the entrepreneur asked to know why the transaction was being delayed despite the fact that he had made certain payments.
“Adani is a very bitter businessman. Some of these fellows who have stolen from Adani here in Kenya, they better watch out as they travel the world,” he cautioned.

Maanzo chastised the government for awarding Adani Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) cloaked in secrecy and lack of transparency.
He stated that the country has the local knowledge to undertake the airport’s modifications.
“We have enough capacity, what is happening is that these deals include a lot of bribery, paid to the brokers and some of the merchants trading with the government,” he pointed out.
“That is why Adani was very bitter about some of his money which was taken away.
“There has to be a procurement process in this country, Adani was a private entrepreneur getting into partnership with the government but there were a number of laws which conflicted and which were not followed,” he added.
In his State of the Nation Address on November 21, President Ruto issued an order canceling the Adani project with JKIA and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO), just hours after Adani was convicted in New York.
Maanzo stated that Kenyans had already expressed concern about Adani’s bid to take over JKIA, with some filing lawsuits in court.
It comes as the court on Wednesday issued orders prohibiting the government from engaging in concession agreements with Adani Group regarding JKIA until the pending lawsuit is resolved.

Maanzo accused Adani of being an international criminal who has been involved in failed transactions in several nations.
Despite the proof of the cancelation, Maanzo sought the government to ensure Kenyans that no private investor would be awarded a contract to administer the country’s major and largest airport.
“The bigger fear is not about Adani being removed; the bigger fear is another criminal being brought on board to manage the airport,” he stated, stressing that the airport can be upgraded locally.
The congressman stated that the Adani deals were part of the disagreements between former DP Rigathi Gachagua and President Ruto, which led to the former’s resignation.
