KEY Events For Ruto In Tanzania As He Arrives At The EAC Forum

President William Ruto has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, where he will attend the 24th Ordinary Summit of the East African Heads of State.

Ruto was met at Kilimanjaro International Airport by Constitutional Affairs Minister Prof. Kalamagamba Kabuddi and EAC Secretary General Veronica Nduva.

Among those in attendance are EAC Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, among other leaders.

The summit brings together regional leaders to discuss important concerns affecting the East African Community (EAC).

During the meeting, the leaders will also discuss methods for accelerating economic integration, increasing the region’s resilience to climate change, and addressing insecurity.

During his visit to Arusha, Ruto plans a flurry of activities and meetings in which he will lobby for the removal of trade barriers and the expansion of cross-border commerce.

He will also advocate for stronger collaborations in energy, agriculture, and digital innovation to create jobs and improve livelihoods across the bloc.

“Leaders will also discuss measures to promote peace and security, including combating transnational crime, managing borders, and resolving conflicts.

“Key initiatives, such as the South Sudanese Tumaini Initiative and the EAC-led Nairobi Process on the restoration of peace and security in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, will feature prominently in the discussions,” a communique from State House Spokesperson Mohamed Hussein reads in part.

The president is also expected to hold bilateral conversations with regional leaders attending the event. These meetings will take place on the margins of the summit.

On Friday afternoon, Ruto will participate in an interactive session commemorating the East African Community’s 25th anniversary and milestones on the path to political federation.

The EAC Headquarters are located in Arusha, Tanzania, where the majority of its activities are carried out.

In his address to the 9th annual African Special Economic Zones summit on Thursday at KICC in Nairobi, President Ruto stated that the gathering will also focus on enhancing the bloc’s business environment.

“Tomorrow in Arusha the Heads of State of the EAC will be meeting and among the targets we will be looking at is how to improve the business environment, how to integrate our economies more and the item of SEZ that was agreed on by ministers will be approved at the summit,“ Ruto said.
