Protests quickly broke out, with enraged people blocking the ancient Mombasa road with tyres and stones, causing temporary traffic congestion.
Bodaboda bikers who observed the tragedy jumped into action and burnt the truck, whose driver escaped instantly.
According to pictures circulating on social media, the lorry’s cabin was on fire.
The fire did not destroy any other materials because the vehicle was empty at the time of the arson.
