US Embassy Responds To Viral Letter Banning Sudi, Murkomen
On Monday, December 1, a bogus communique claiming to impose a travel ban on Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi was recognized as fraudulent.
The bogus letter, which was extensively shared on social media, impersonated the US Embassy and issued travel bans to the two.
Murkomen and Sudi were barred from entering the United States indefinitely, according to a forged statement dated December 1.
“The U.S. Government. US. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in coordination with The US Embassy in Kenya herewith restricts the induviduals named Oscar Kipchumba Sudi and Onsemus Kipchumba Markomen from entering The United States of America,” read part of the fake communique with spelling mistakes.

The bogus communication bore the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) government seal, as well as the director Mendoza Jaddou’s false signature.
The US Embassy spoke with the press, confirming that no such statement originated from them and warning the letter’s authors.
“These letters are fake. Creating or distributing false government documents is illegal in both Kenya and the United States,” U.S. Embassy spokesman James Hagengruber stated.
A detailed examination of the bogus document found mistakes, irregular typefaces, and formatting, raising concerns about its legitimacy.
The bogus announcement claimed that the two aforementioned government officials were barred from traveling to the United States after accepting bribes and facilitating tenders for the Adani Group Limited.
The bogus paper further stated that the two specified government officials’ ban on travel to the United States would take effect on December 1, 2024, at midnight.
“The current indefinite entry restrictions into the US denote that there will be a suspension of visa exemption policy and issuance of tourist visa ande-visa,” the fake letter full of grammatical errors further stated.

However, the US embassy stated that no information had been provided to the aforementioned government officials.
“The travel ban indicated in the letter is a fake and was not issued by any US government official,” the US Embassy added.
The bogus letter follows a recent surge in fake news. The most recent was a false job notice issued on November 24 that claimed to recruit in large numbers for positions at the Social Health Authority (SHA).
SHA rejected the advertisement as phony on its official X handle, thereby warning the public to be wary of deceptive material.
