FULL LIST: Top 100 Kenyans 2024 Of TrailBlazers And GroundBreakers
This year has emerged as the most significant in the 11-year history of the two most recent presidencies, with numerous historic accomplishments done primarily by newcomers.
In a first in Kenya’s 61-year history, the presidency rejected to assent to a Finance Bill in June 2024, throwing the government’s future financial plans into chaos.
Following demonstrations, the administration was left with little choice but to dismiss the entire Cabinet of 23 secretaries, which was another first.
The months-long protests upset the political scene, culminating in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which was another first.
In the 12 months leading up to the publishing of this list, a number of Kenyans, 100 in total, broke new ground in a variety of fields, including climate change, activism, record-breaking athletics, and next-door hard workers.

They moved the needle ahead, transforming everyday service industries such as philanthropy, nursing, and academia.
Since the inaugural Top 100 Kenyans list in 2017, Kenyans.co.ke has worked to recognize the community of leaders who inspire change on an annual basis.
Nelson Amenya, for example, has been lauded as a hero across the country for disclosing secret files between the government and Adani Holdings relating to the transfer of management of the national airport.

His exposé, combined with countrywide protest, resulted in the collapse of the contract.
Activist Hussein Khalid, on the other hand, stood alongside Kenyans during a period of despair when, according to the Law Society of Kenya’s tracking, more than 72 individuals were abducted and over 24 were killed.
His efforts resulted in his arrest in October while honoring youngsters who died during the protests, and he was later voted Human Rights Defender of the Year at the HRD Awards.
Across the aisle, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, despite being an elected leader, has demonstrated that politicians can be positive forces as well.
In 2024, he campaigned against government plans, particularly the Social Health Authority (SHA), and worked to protect constitutional rights.
Major General Fatuma Ahmed transformed military leadership when she became the Kenya Air Force’s (KAF) first female commander.
She has 41 years of military service thus far. Dorcas Oduor, in a different capacity, became the first female Attorney General. Her appointment was regarded as long overdue.
How The Top 100 Kenyans 2024 List Was Compiled
This year’s list, spearheaded by co-leaders Brian Muuo and Edwin Kuria, was a fantastic trip that took four months to create.
“The Top 100 Kenyans list recognises people who have driven change in significant aspects of the society with their work, new ideas, as well as leadership and several intrinsic qualities including integrity,” Kuria stated.

“Each of the nominees is judged according to specific factors such as their positive impact, policies touched, consistency in their approach, and credible awards achieved. This ensures that it does not become a popularity list but rather one of impact.”
“The absence of top-tier politicians like President William Ruto from the Top 100 Kenyans list is due to the focus on individuals whose influence and contributions are evaluated within the year under review, rather than solely on their political position,” he concluded.
“The list prioritises those whose impact, consistency, and milestones align with the set criteria, and it’s possible that in a given year, certain figures may not meet the specific benchmarks for inclusion. It also has zero external influences beyond the carefully selected vetting committee.”
