Kiambu Senator Speaks After A 7-Hour Grill At DCI Headquarters

On Thursday, December 5, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa expressed his dissatisfaction with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over how they are investigating the Limuru burial case.

Karungo, a staunch supporter of impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stated that when he obeyed a summons from authorities, he was held in a boardroom for more than 7 hours.

“We have been in a boardroom at DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road since 08:00 hours,” Karungo shared at half passed 2:00 pm.

“We chose to exercise our constitutional right to remain silent and have declined to provide any information, as we are not obligated to assist the DCI with their investigation.”

He stated that he and former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, who had been taken in the aftermath of the incident, had been shut up in the boardroom while police conducted ‘consultations.’

Karungo expressed concern over this development, implying potential foul play.

“In the meantime, we are doing nothing in this boardroom while the officers engage in extensive consultations outside. We are unaware of whom they are consulting, but I’m sure you can make an educated guess,” Karungo averred.

The DCI had summoned Karungo to offer information about the circumstances that caused the chaos at Erastus Nduati’s burial in Limuru.

Property of unknown worth was destroyed during the incident, and some worshipers were injured.

At the funeral, unruly teenagers disturbed the proceedings by throwing stones and other debris at Gachagua and other senior leaders’ tent, forcing him to depart.

Gachagua’s car was eventually stoned and destroyed. Gachagua’s allies later claimed it was an assassination attempt, blaming the State.

Gachagua, for his part, described the incident as a state attack, saying that it occurred after his security was withdrawn, leaving him exposed and unprotected.

“This is a very sad state of affairs and a major low for the state, who were clearly complicit in these actions,” he stated.

Karungo was joined at the DCI offices in Nyeri by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, and MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, all of whom support Gachagua.

Their arrival threatened to bring Nyeri town to a halt, as drama broke out when Nyeri people momentarily fought the police in running battles.
