‘Reconstitute IEBC Urgently!’ – Gachagua Tells Ruto In Fiery Outburst
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who addressed a request to President William Ruto, interpreted the government’s delay in reconstituting an electoral body as malicious.
Gachagua attended a Church Service at P.C.E.A Mwiki in Kasarani, Nairobi, on Sunday, and took another shot at his old employer, this time about the country’s absence of an electoral commission.
“And on matters of IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission), an election is as credible as the process,” Gachagua alleged.
“The electoral commission must be in place three years before the election, now we have two and a half years remaining there is no IEBC and people can read mischief.”
According to Gachagua, the country was behind schedule because a commission should have been formed three years before to the next general election.

He asked the President to work quickly to establish the IEBC, as the next general election is only three years away.
The former DP added, “We are thus calling on the reconstitution of IEBC urgently so that the process can be as credible as the expected outcome.”
In what has become a typical pattern for Gachagua, his comments came just 24 hours after Kenyans went online in an innovative effort to put pressure on the government to establish a functioning election commission.
The hashtag #appointiebcnow was used by hundreds of Kenyans to express their worry about what they regarded as the Kenya Kwanza Government’s purposeful endeavor to establish a functioning IEBC.

President Ruto is currently in a difficult position because the process of establishing a functional election body can only begin in January, despite pressure from Kenyans, political enemies, and critics to do so.
This is due to two current legal lawsuits contesting the nomination of a panel to select the IEBC commissioners.
During the same church session, Gachagua thanked his allies for speaking out against the Kenya Kwanza government and encouraged the church to continue pointing out government misconduct.
This was the former DP’s first public appearance, coming more than a week after he was attacked during a burial in Limuru, an incident he described as a “well-planned attempt on my life.”
