President Ruto Visits Uhuru Kenyatta In Ichaweri

On Monday, December 9, President William Ruto paid a visit to his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta at his residence in Gatundu.

This was the second meeting between the two leaders in less than a month, following their first in Embu at Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u’s consecration and installation.

According to State House, during the meeting, Ruto expressed gratitude to his predecessor for ensuring a seamless transition of power during the 2022 Presidential elections.

“President Ruto thanked Uhuru Kenyatta for laying a strong foundation that enabled the government to implement key programs under the Bottom-Up Economic transformation agenda,” the statement from State House read.

Among the topics raised at the two leaders’ discussion was the timely resolution of court disputes, which was the principal impediment to the IEBC’s reconstruction.

Furthermore, Uhuru and Ruto joined forces to push Kenyans to support their former foe Raila Odinga’s candidacy for African Union Chair.

The date of Uhuru and Ruto’s encounter was notable since it occurred at a time when the battle for domination in the Mount Kenya region was increasing.

Notably, Uhuru Kenyatta has made several public appearances in recent weeks, in stark contrast to the months of silence he had subjected Kenyans to.

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the former Head of State attended the wedding of Kalonzo Musyoka’s daughter, Damarie Saada Kalonzo.

Kalonzo, a staunch adversary of President Ruto’s rule, later confirmed his good connection with Uhuru by delivering a public statement congratulating the Jubilee party head for his presence.

The meeting also occurred during a projected government upheaval, with numerous cabinet secretaries potentially on the chopping block.

With three years until the general election, it’s clear why political elites want Uhuru Kenyatta on their side.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has openly stated his ambition to challenge Ruto for the presidency in 2027, with the Mount Kenya area appearing to be the major battleground between the two leaders.

Since the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo has publicly supported the besieged former DP, loudly criticizing the state for supposedly impeding Gachagua in many ways.

More recently, Gachagua and Kalonzo have collectively criticized the government for delays in the rebuilding of IEBC.
