UDA MP Asks For Immediate Release Of Kidnapped Embu Blogger Billy Mwangi
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has urged the quick and safe release of Billy Mwangi, a young man who was kidnapped by unknown assailants, suspected to be police officials, in Embu on Saturday.
Mwangi was allegedly taken after sharing a creepy AI-generated image of President William Ruto on X.
Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, Mukunji raised concern about Mwangi’s abduction by police, accusing authorities of appearing to look for him when, in fact, they are the ones who have imprisoned him.
Mukunji decried the police’s practices for abducting Kenyans, adding that they are illegal.
He also emphasized that the government should follow the rule of law when dealing with individuals who may have exceeded the line, rather than resorting to public kidnappings.

“I want to condemn extra-judicial ways of making wrong implementation of laws,” he said.
The Manyatta MP then demanded Mwangi’s release, warning of terrible consequences if he was returned injured or dead.
“If in any way, he is produced when he is harmed or dead, we are going to stop everything in Embu,” said Mukunji.

“We are going to call demonstrations and we are going to close all government offices because we cannot accept the order of the day of losing our young people.”
“The young man’s father and kin won’t celebrate Christmas in peace so whatever issue that could have happened should take the line of the law,” he added.
“The government is supposed to ensure our people’s safety whether you are guilty or whether you are not guilty.”
According to Mukunji, if the kidnappings continue, Kenya would return to a period similar to President Moi’s era, when democracy and freedom of expression were trampled on and scarcely existed.
