‘Abductions Will End, Parents Protect Your Children!’ – Ruto Says
President William Ruto responded delicately to recent claimed abduction instances with a brief message aimed at parents.
On Friday, December 27, all eyes were on the President when he arrived in Homa Bay County to attend the Odi Genowa Governor’s Cup 2024 at Raila Odinga Stadium.
Following an entertaining cup final, the President was given the opportunity to address thousands of Homa Bay citizens, with a special emphasis on his stance amid government pressure to solve cases of abduction.
While not mentioning any specific cases of kidnapping, the President asked parents to monitor and protect their children.
“These children are a blessing,” Ruto said. “I want to urge parents to protect their children.”
The President emphasized that his administration is committed to reducing abductions.

“As a government, we will do our part and the issue of abductions will end in the country so the youth can live in harmony and the youth can become people of integrity and respect to move the country forward.”
Raila Odinga, the AUC chair candidate who attended the ceremony, addressed the thorny abduction issue directly, imploring the President to put an end to the vice.
“We want all our youth to be safe. I have told my friend William Ruto that the issue of youth being abducted, detained, and tortured needs to end and anyone involved jailed,” Raila said.
In the same ceremony, the President made grandiose promises to the people of Homa Bay as is his custom.
Ruto pledged a KSh 2 million cash present to all 66 teams that took part in the tournament, which was organized by Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga.
Furthermore, Ruto emphasized the incomplete state of the Raila Odinga stadium, revealing that his administration had allocated KSh 500 million for its completion.
“I saw many of you seated in the scorching sun. It is my promise that will have Mashujaa celebrations here,” the President said.

Ruto’s anticipated statements on abductions come following pressure from a number of parties, including the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
The KNCHR estimates that 82 individuals have been kidnapped since the historic anti-finance bill rallies in June.
Meanwhile, politicians have expressed various views on the abductions, with Ruto’s economic advisor Moses Kuria urging Kenyans to sign a two-in-one petition.
