“Riggy G Is King!” – Gachagua Declares Defending Move For Presidential Seat
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that he intends to run for president in the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua dismissed claims that his political role is to help remove President William Ruto and hand power to another opposition leader.
Speaking to Gen Zs at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua said he was seeking the presidency himself and would not settle for the role of a kingmaker.
He said his opposition to Ruto was not motivated by bitterness or revenge following his removal from office but by his desire to provide better leadership for the country.
“Is Riggy G running for president? The answer is yes,” Gachagua said.
“There are many people, including supporters of my colleagues in the United Opposition, whom I have seen on social media and public platforms advancing a ridiculous proposition that my work is to remove President William Ruto and give leadership to others. Riggy G is not a kingmaker. Riggy G is king.”
“I am not mobilising Kenyans to remove Ruto as president because of bitterness or vengeance. No,” Gachagua stated.
“It is because I am a patriot, and I must apply the God-given ability to mobilise Kenyans for the benefit of the country. It is not out of personal reasons against the President.”
Gachagua said he was offering himself for the presidency because he believed Kenyans were looking for alternative leadership.
The former deputy president also rejected suggestions that his impeachment and removal from office could prevent him from contesting for the presidency.
“I want good leadership in this country, and I am offering myself for that position of president,” he said.
“Let nobody tell you that because I was removed from office, I cannot run. And let nobody tell me that because I was removed from office, I cannot run.”
Gachagua cited Articles 75 and 99 of the Constitution, arguing that the provisions should be read together when determining the eligibility of a person facing questions relating to Chapter Six of the Constitution.
He said his legal team would continue challenging his removal through the courts, expressing confidence that the Court of Appeal would overturn the earlier decision.
“We are in court because we believe in the court of law, justice, and the kind of democracy we want,” he said.

“We are in court to defend, and we also know very well that I am not barred by the High Court; we still have another chance at the Supreme Court.”
Gachagua argued that the High Court had previously found that he was subjected to an unfair process and denied a fair hearing.
He also questioned why the consequences of what he described as an unconstitutional process should continue to affect his political ambitions.
He said he remained determined to seek political office, expressing confidence that the appellate courts would uphold his right to contest.
“Why would any court in this country deny me the chance to pursue political office when I have done nothing wrong?” he posed.
“I am persuaded that the judges of the Court of Appeal will apply sanity and the law and allow Gachagua to be who he is. I am determined to pursue political office because that is what Kenyans want.”
