MOTHER’S TEARS: 2 Sons Kidnapped, Ksh.200K Study Loan Wasted – Kibet Bull’s Mother Speaks
Caroline Mutai, the mother of cartoonists Gideon Kibet (alias Kibet Bull) and Rony Kiplagat, claims her family has been in anguish since the two were kidnapped right before Christmas.
The mother says she is looking for a squandered opportunity for Kibet to pursue higher education, as he was scheduled to fly abroad to study.
Mama Kibet and Kiplagat have had a terrible festive season. Just one day before Christmas, her 23-year-old son Kibet was kidnapped while visiting the office of Busia Senator Okiya Omtata in the capital.
A few days before Kibet’s kidnapping, her second son, Rony Kiplagat, went missing.
“I have been hospitalized because of high blood pressure,” says the heartbroken mother.

Kibet Bull, also known as ‘Yoko’ on X, has used his work to criticize the government.
The cartoonist, a student at Egerton University in Nakuru, is well-known for distributing silhouette images of President Ruto’s visage.
He has also published photographs of other executives and judges.
Critics of the regime have used his popular images. His mother claims he was unaware of his son’s online behavior.
“If I knew he was involved with such things. I would have told him to tone down,” she said.
The mother of ten is clearly distressed since she does not know where her sons are, but what is even more concerning is the possibility that Kibet’s abduction has cost her and her family.
On December 27, the cartoonist was scheduled to travel to Israel with a group of roughly twenty other young people to pursue further education. Caroline believes this chance was not cheap or easy.
“There are others in the airport waiting to leave. I took a Ksh.200k loan so that he studies,” shares Caroline.

The distraught mother now wants the authorities to reveal the whereabouts of her two children.
“Please, government, give me my children.”
She says her family is still hoping that the two brothers, who are among the growing number of young men who have been stolen, will be returned to her safely.
Hope is the only thing keeping her sane and motivated.
