Ruto’s Senior Advisor Rebukes Those Heckling The President’s Speech

Senior Presidential Economic Council advisor Moses Kuria has reprimanded Embu residents for their ‘ungodly acts’.

Kuria lashed out at those who refused to allow CS Muturi to deliver the president’s message in a statement made on Saturday, January 3, describing the action as ‘ungodly’.

The heckling occurred during the burial, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other of his allied politicians.

According to Kuria, refusing condolence notes from even their ‘worst enemy’ was inappropriate and against the culture of the Mt Kenya region.

“In our culture, we never refuse condolences, even from our worst enemies. Messages are read publicly for the comfort of the bereaved family,” Kuria stated.

“It’s the reason prayers are held in public, including prayers for the family. Otherwise, the clergy would retreat with the family and pray in privacy.”

Furthermore, the politician turned technocrat has encouraged the former Senator to come out and give a statement distancing his family from the heckling.

“I expect Senator Leny Kivuti to disassociate with this ungodly act. You do not have to like the president, but is it his right to condole with the family?” he added.

Kuria was responding to an earlier event on Friday when Muturi ascended the microphone to deliver President Ruto’s sympathy message amidst jeers and heckling from the audience.

Embu County has been a hotbed of simmering political tensions since the kidnapping of teenage activist Billy Mwangi.

On Friday, December 27, business and transportation operations in Embu Town were halted due to large rallies over the purported abduction of the social media personality.

Photos and videos circulated of citizens waving placards, blowing whistles, and chanting in protest at Billy’s abduction.

Billy was allegedly taken on Saturday, December 21, at a barbershop in Embu.

The protests began after Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji led Embu leaders in demanding Billy’s release and denouncing State organs for utilizing extrajudicial measures to maintain the rule of law.
