‘Stop Cheap Propaganda On People’s Lives!’ – Eugene Wamalwa Tells Ruto’s Gov’t

Eugene Wamalwa, the chairman of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has urged Kenyans to join in prayer for the safe return of recently abducted youngsters.

This request comes amid increased worry about targeted abductions, particularly of outspoken government critics on social media.

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Wamalwa used his X account to express his sympathy for the victims and their families.

“Pray My Beloved Country on this first Sunday of the year for an end to abductions and [the] safe return of Kibet Bull and his fellow abductees to their families on or before 8th January 2025 as ordered by the Court,” he wrote.

The opposition leader also prayed for the families of those victims who died terribly.

He mentioned young Kenyans like Ibrahim Hilal Mwiti, whose body was discovered after his abduction.

Wamalwa’s comments come amid a wave of alleged abductions in Kenya.

The victims are largely young people who have been vocal about their opposition of the administration on social media networks.

Many of these incidents remain unresolved, instilling terror among the people.

On December 30, 2024, the High Court intervened and ordered the release of six people, including Gideon Kibet, Peter Muteti, Rony Kiplagat, Bernard Kavuli, Billy Mwangi, and Steve Kavingo, who had been allegedly abducted.

However, because the victims have yet to be released, their relatives and friends are left in a state of uncertainty.

Wamalwa has upped his criticism of President William Ruto, pushing him to accept responsibility for the escalating number of abductions and calling for his resignation.

Wamalwa expressed solidarity with the family of Billy Mwangi, one of Embu’s missing persons, and praised the county for organizing protests against the abductions.

He declared plans for statewide rallies on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, if Mwangi and others are not brought to court as ordered.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the people of Embu, who have also borne the brunt of abductions and have led the nation in protests against this tyranny and in calling for the release of Billy Mwangi and all abductees,” Wamalwa stated on X.

He stressed the responsibility of President Ruto and his government.

“The buck stops with President William Ruto and his broad-based government, whose cardinal duty is to protect life and property, failing which they have no business calling themselves a government,” he added.

Wamalwa also accused pro-government leaders of spreading propaganda and tying opposition individuals to the kidnappings.

“In the meantime, they should stop trivializing the abduction issue by cheap propaganda accusing Rigathi Gachagua and the opposition or even the families of abducting their own children!” he remarked.
