Belgut MP Claims Gachagua Is Responsible For 2024’s Violent Protests
Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech has said that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is to blame for the violent anti-government rallies that occurred in 2024.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday, the legislator said that Gachagua was one of the politicians who coordinated the mayhem during the protests.
Koech further stated that the charges had been approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
MP Nelson Koech: Molo is not a hotspot; we coexist peacefully with all communities. I do not support Farah Maalim's comments regarding the killing of Gen Z protesters. Soon, the truth about who orchestrated the violence will unravel #CitizenDayBreak @AyubAbdikadir pic.twitter.com/faa9piIYbH

“The only demonstration done by the young people was one, the other one was executed by politicians including the former Deputy President and the DPP has approved charges,” he said on Daybreak Show.
“The DPP last week approved charges of three MPs and one other person so we will then be told what happened but in my view the way it happened, the people who came were not young people.”
At the height of the riots on June 26, 2025, Gachagua blamed the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for the upheaval and demanded the resignation. NIS Director General Noordin Haji
DP Gachagua: We were elected the other day as a popular government. How did we get here? When did the rain start beating us?

We have a dysfunctional National Intelligence Service. NIS Director Noordin Haji must take responsibility for the deaths of protesters and resign. My… pic.twitter.com/xc9fgpsMz1
Gachagua blamed him for overseeing what he saw as a decrease in the agency’s effectiveness during his tenure.
“I sympathise with President Ruto because this information was not available to him,” said Gachagua.
“NIS is mandated to provide such information and that is where the problem is; we have a dysfunctional NIS that has exposed the President, the government and the people of Kenya.”

The issue has produced tensions and political blame across the political spectrum.
Leaders in Kenya’s Kwanza government have blamed the ousted DP, while Gachagua and his followers have insisted that the State bear responsibility.
