Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has made significant changes to her cabinet in an effort to improve service delivery in the county.

In a Gazette notice, the county government stated that the modifications were undertaken to improve the county’s performance for the benefit of its citizens.

The appointment of Elijah Munga as the new executive member for Youth and Sports is one of the most noticeable changes.

His candidacy has been forwarded to the Homa Bay County Assembly for consideration, and if granted, he will succeed Sarah Malit, who has been transferred as the executive member for Fisheries.

The new changes also see Roseline Omollo, who has been in charge of the Health docket, swapped with Governance and Devolution counterpart, Mercy Osewe.

Meanwhile, Joash Aloo has left the Department of Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Environment, Energy, and Climate Change, where he has served since 2022.He will now be in charge of the trade docket.

“The nominations and changes are made to enhance service delivery and optimal performance in the county. The move will also help us fill the vacant positions,” Wanga said in the notice.

The reshuffle comes only two months after Polycarp Okombo, the county’s trade executive, was elected Speaker of the Homa Bay County Assembly.

The governor announced the restructuring, saying the changes were required, especially after Okombo’s departure.

“We have some of the best people in the government,” the governor said. “Once in a while, you check around and move people from one place to another.”

“This assembly took away one of my people (Okombo) to become Speaker, and I had to look for an equally diligent officer for trade.”
