Parliament Approves Ruto’s Controversial Appointees To TSC
The National Assembly has approved the appointment of former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and Antonina Lentoijoni as members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The MPs approved the appointments on Tuesday, August 25, during their weekly proceedings, clearing the way for the two to take over their new roles.
The house unanimously approved the two after being recommended by the Education Committee.
This followed the vetting of the two individuals by the committee on Thursday, August 20, after which the committee resolved to approve them for the positions.
President William Ruto appointed Sossion and Lentoijoni as TSC board members to fill vacancies after the commission experienced a shortage.
However, Sossion’s appointment faced legal battles after the High Court stopped the parliament from vetting him and his colleague.
“A Conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the 2nd respondent, whether by itself, its Committees, officers, servants or agents, from considering, vetting or approving the nomination of the 5th and 6th respondents as Commissioners of the Teachers Service Commission pursuant to Notification of Presidential Action No XI of 2026 pending the hearing and determination of this application,” the notice stated in part.

The court later lifted the orders, clearing the way for the two to appear before the education committee.
Following the approval, Sossion now returns to the education sector’s national leadership after years of involvement in teachers’ union activities.
His nomination had attracted significant attention, given his previous role as the country’s leading teachers’ union official.
During his vetting, the former nominated MP outlined his commitment to protecting teachers’ interests while ensuring that the TSC continues to deliver on its constitutional mandate.
The approval comes days after the August House also approved the nomination of Dancun Oburu as the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
Ojwang is set to succeed Justice Ahmed Issack Hassan, who vacated the position after being appointed a Judge of the Court of Appeal of Kenya.
