EACC Detectives Arrest Bomet Governor Over Fraudulent Activities

Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have detained Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok.

Barchok’s arrest comes after pressure from a variety of sources, including local legislators who have expressed concerns about potential corruption inside the county government.

According to insider allegations, EACC agents went into the governor’s home in an attempt to uncover documents relating to fraudulent activities in the county.

Following the arrest, the governor plans to make a statement at the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru.

Led by Senator Hillary Sigei, a number of Bomet leaders demanded that Barchok be charged with theft of money in November 2024.

The lawmakers singled out a case of hospital mismanagement, which allegedly resulted in the death of a three-year-old patient at Longisa Hospital owing to incompetence.

Following several instances of corruption, county legislatures encouraged the EACC to take action against the governor and county executives.

The EACC then opened a probe into the misappropriation of Ksh373 million in public monies.

To assist with the investigations, the EACC requested a number of financial and procurement papers from the county secretary.

The inquiry indicated that senior authorities were involved in coordinating the fraudulent actions. The EACC detained 18 county officials from Bomet.
